An introduction to the INVALSI ENGLISH test for 5 A/L

By the end of high school, students should have reached a B2 level in languages. 
La 5° (Grade 13) is from March 1 -31, 2023.


In order to 
identify 5th-year student levels, Invalsi
 tests both the B1 and B2 levels for English in the following areas: 

          1. social and professional life
          2. the environment
          3. science
          4. leisure
          5. personal health
          6. education
          7. training
          8. services
          9. work
          10. multiculturalism
          11. criminality
          12. art
          13. history
          14. music
          15. culture
          16. global problems
          17. food
          18. traditions

The test is divided into  READING (90 minutes) and LISTENING 
about 60 minutes, depending on the student. 

Types of reading and listening tested:  1. Selective reading and listening to grasp the main idea; 2. Selective reading and listening to understand specific information or important details; 3. Careful, intensive reading and listening to grasp the main ideas and supporting details; 4. Intensive reading and listening to understand the meaning of a sentence or word from the context.

READING: 5 tasks: 2 at level B1 and 3 at level B2 35/40 questions The maximum length of the B1 text is 350 words; 600 for the B2. ***Spelling, grammar, and syntax (word order) errors are not penalized.***

LISTENING: 5 tasks: 2 level B1 / 3 level B2 35/40 questions Audio file lasts a max of 4 minutes. Can be a monologue, a dialogue (max 3 people), or a sequence of small monologues of about 20 seconds with different speakers and conversations. ***You are given 1 minute to read the questions before the audio starts. The audio is played twice. Another minute is given to check/finish your answers.*** At the beginning of each task, an example is provided to show what type of answer is required. There may be extra options or options that can be used twice, so students cannot decide by exclusion. Types of answers are:

  • Multiple choice
  • Multiple matching
  • Short answer (1-4 words)
Here is an example of the INVALSI test divided into two parts. You can go back and forth as you like to study things.
