Happy Birthday, ITALY!

Italia compie 150 anni

Nel 1861, dopo le guerre contro gli Austriaci e conclusa la spedizione di Garibaldi in Sicilia, termina il lungo periodo di lotta politica e militare che conduce l’Italia all’unificazione. 
Il 17 marzo di quell’anno a Torino viene proclamata la prima capitale d’Italia.

Durante il Risorgimento aveva accolto tutti gli esuli che, giunti da ogni parte della penisola, avevano maturato una comune aspirazione unitaria e qui era stata elaborata la strategia politica che avrebbe portato all’unificazione. 

 Torino resta capitale per quattro anni, fino al 1865, quando la centralità del governo del Regno si sposta a Firenze. La sede viene stabilita a Roma a partire dal 1871, quando l’unificazione del Paese è ormai definitivamente completata. 

La Bandiera

verde = la speranza in un'Italia unita e libera, e la macchia mediterranea, fondamentale elemento del paesaggio italiano;

bianco = le fede cristiana cattolica, professata dalla maggioranza degli Italiani, e le Alpi (ghiacciai)

rosso = il sangue sparso per l'Unità d'Italia

Padre del tricolore è considerato Giuseppe Compagnoni, anche se forse i primi a ideare l'accostamento dei colori della bandiera nazionale erano stati due patrioti e studenti dell'Università di Bologna, Luigi Zamboni
e Giovanni Battista de Rolandis, quando nell'autunno del 1794 unirono il bianco e il rosso delle rispettive città al verde, colore della speranza. Si erano prefissi di organizzare una rivoluzione per ridare al Comune di Bologna l'antica indipendenza perduta con la sudditanza agli Stati della Chiesa. La sommossa, nella notte del 13 dicembre, fallì e i due studenti furono scoperti e catturati dalla polizia pontificia, insieme ad altri cittadini.
